"There's something about your first piece".
You'll never look at warm apple pie the same way again! American Pie takes
a hysterical look at the goal of four 'unlucky in love' high school friends
who make the ultimate pact: lose their virginity by prom night. As they try
to manipulate their way into the...hearts of some of their classmates,
their plans often backfire with amusing results. One fails to score with the
sexy foreign exchange student and then makes a last ditch effort with a
band member who has an interesting way with her flute, while another is so
desperate he actually hires someone to give him a "reputation".
This has all the classics of a teen movie comedy/sex romp. Following in the
traditions of Fast Times At Ridgemont High, Assault Of The Party Nerds and Porky's.
A large list of main characters (most to all unknowns at the time). All who
seem perfectly casted as well.
So it all kicks off at a party. When the friends find out that the least likely
bloke in the World has managed to get laid, namely Sherman (or as he calls himself - The Sherminator!)
They decide enough is enough. They make a pact to lose their virginity by prom night or
bust (and prostitutes don't count as a valid attempt). One of the group is off to a running
start as he is in a relationship already, if he can only get the girl to go further. But she
wants everything to be "perfect". As for the others, well they have various hare-brained schemes,
which range from trying to seduce the Foreign Exchange student to joining the school choir. Plus
Jim (Jason Biggs) has to deal with his father constantly trying to give him the facts of life talk
by showing him porn, as he suspects Jim to be slightly strange in his sexual habits.
There's not too much you can say without giving gags away but in case you are worried that
the boys are going to just use the girls and forget them there is no need to worry as
their attempts aren't all they crack them up to be. Plus the girls aren't necessarily all
that innocent in that department either! This film whilst being slightly predictable towards the
end is still a very refreshing and funny movie. And that is basically all this film is trying to
make you do - laugh. It is also very nice to see a film which portrays the school prom as a very lame affair
and not the amazing thing it is built up to be in other films.
